We are so excited and proud to bring you this beautiful washed coffee from the producers Gizaw and Frehiwot. This is the very first time we’ve been able to work with an Ethiopian single estate coffee and the lot that we’ve got our hands on consists of the Dega and Gurume varietals. The farm Harenja is located at a stunning 2100 masl in Yirgacheffe and Gizaw and Frehiwot have run it since 2016. They immediately started work to improve the farm’s quality control, traceability and processing. While advancing the quality they were also awaiting a political shift in Ethiopia. The shift would allow producers to sell their coffee directly to importers instead of going through the national commodity exchange first. In 2017 it finally got liberalized and we’re incredibly excited to present this single estate Ethiopian coffee to you.
Gizaw and Frehiwot operates the 30 hectare farm and several washing stations where the coffee from Harenja gets sorted and processed separately. This allows an unmatched level of control and traceability, keeping true to the couple’s first vision from 2016 of how Ethiopian coffee could and should be.
